The Yadkin Valley Wine Company’s winemaker is Kent Smith.
Originally from Geogria‚ Kent has been making beer and wine since the early 90’s. Kent spent time in the Navy
and as a Delta Aircraft Mechanic before determining winemaking was his true passion. In 2001 he decided to become
a professional winemaker and enrolled in the enology (wine science) program at California State University, Fresno.
He was awarded a Viticulture assistantship under the direction of Dr. Sayed Badr. In 2004 Kent graduated with a Bachelors’
degree in Enology and minor in Chemistry.
At the start of his winemaking career‚ Kent worked in his home state of Georgia. In early 2007‚ Kent accepted
the position of head winemaker for the Yadkin Valley Wine Company. During Kent’s free time he studies Kung Fu
and trains at a school in Mooresville‚ NC.
